Born on April 18th, 1940, academician of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, elected on May 31st, 2017, specialty «Pharmaceutical chemistry, synthesis of new biologically active substances», Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (1978), professor (1980), Honoured worker of Higher School of Ukraine(1985), State prize winner in science and technology (2000), Honoured Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutical, Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry (2007), head of the Department of Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry (1978-1997), Dean of Pharmacy Faculty (1972-1979); vice-rector on academic work (1979-1998); head of the Department of Pharmaceutical, Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry (1997- 2016), professor of the Department of Pharmaceutical, Organic and Bioorganic Chemistry (since 2016), rector of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University (since 1998)
Noted scientist in pharmaceutical and organic chemistry. He made a considerable contribution to the developing of hetero- and macrocyclic compounds chemistry, studying correlation «structure-action», searching new physiologically active compounds and making range of medicines; he introduced virtual synthesis with quantum chemistry methods in Ukraine.
He made a significant contribution to studying chemistry of thiazolidines, and, particularly, into methods of synthesis and conversion of bicyclic non-condensed hexamerous analogues of thiazolidines-1,3-thiazanes and creating new promising macroheteroderivatives on their basis, namely, derivatives of new chemical classes with interesting properties, including sensitive agents, biostimulators of plants, antimicrobic, antifungal, antiviral substances, compounds with antitumour activity, etc. Studying rational modelling of potential medicines is performed under his supervision.
Author of over 900 scientific and scientific-methodological papers, including 8 monographs, 20 manuals and textbooks, 75 inventor’s certificates, 65 patents. He supervised 5 doctoral and 15 Ph.D thesises.
President of Galician Pharmaceutical Association; member of European Association of International Education; chief of medical sciences section of Western Scientific Centre of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and Ministry of Education of Ukraine; head of Western Scientific Centre of National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine; head of special board on defense of PhD and doctoral thesises (specialties 15.00.01 and 15.00.02) of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical Universtity; member of numerous public academies (Academy of Sciences of Technological Cybernetics of Ukraine, Academy of Sciences of Higher Educations of Ukraine, Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, New York Academy, Shevchenko Scientific Society); member of editorial boards of 10 scientific journals.
Awarded by 9 medals, decoration «Inventor of USSR», decoration of Lublin Medical University «Honoured for Medical University in Lublin»; decoration of the head of Lviv Regional State Administration «Ukraine, Democracy, Freedom»; decoration of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine «For training scientific generation», decoration of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine «Petro Mohyla». He was declared «Man of the Millennium» and awarded the medal by the International Cambridge biographic centre for achievements in organic chemistry; was declared «Man of the year» by Biographic Institute of the USA; full holder of the orders «For merits» - ІІІ, ІІ, І degrees.
